About Hogtunes

Sometime in 2003, Hogtunes became an idea when a neighbor asked about some upgrade speakers for his 2002 Ultra. Working for a large Canadian Audio Distributor, it was easy for us to try several different name brands to see what would work. All the speakers we tried played louder, but we quickly found they didn't perform that great at highway speeds. Once we found a name brand speaker that worked the best from the ones we tried, a few of our riding buddies wanted some, and a local HD dealer even started to stock some. After spending lots of time in online forums, and looking around websites, we realized there were not many options for a speaker designed specifically for Harley touring bikes. Our audio background allowed us to see why car speakers would never work that great on a bike, so we designed a speaker around our findings to fix these problems. Since we were heavily involved in car audio since 1986, and made relationships with good factories all over the world, with some good old fashioned grass roots engineering, Hogtunes could become a reality.

In November of 2011, we celebrated our 7th year in business. With tremendous help from our global distribution partner “Drag Specialties” who also operates Parts Unlimited, Parts Canada, and Parts Europe, our brand is now available in almost 40 countries! Since we’re so passionate about what we do, we have invested heavily in the right machinery and the right people to do all prototyping and product development in house. We have CNC machinery, Solidworks®, and Rapidform® CAD Design software, a Creaform® 3D laser scanner, and a 3D Systems® stereo lithography 3D printer. With all these tools, we can take a part off a bike and very accurately scan it in to our CAD software. From there, we can add on, or alter that part, and once we’re happy with the computer drawing, send it over to our 3D printer, and in short order have an actual 3D prototype part. Our printed parts come out as a hard enough part, we can sand it, drill it, tap it, etc, and literally bolt it to a bike and road test it!
We’ve also added a facility in Phoenix AZ where on our 2007 Ultra Classic, we can do on road testing all year round. Our one fellow there has worked for many major car stereo companies in technical development, but equally as important, like all of us, he rides! In a typical year, he rides an average of 30,000 miles, he races off road, and is an active member of the Iron Butt Association. Not to age him too bad, but he’s been involved in audio since before co-axial speakers or cassette tapes were commercially available. Our other fellow in Phoenix, and new “Head of Electronics Engineering” comes to us with 24 years of electronic design experience, and also rides his heavily customized, and turbo-charged V-ROD®. Collectively, the Hogtunes staff has worked with such companies as Phillips, MTX, GM, Ford, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Rockford Fosgate, Delco, and several others.

All the above may seem pretty cool, but the real success of Hogtunes can be summed up pretty simply. "Treat people the way we want to be treated" and "If our customers aren't our best sales people, we're in real trouble". It may seem pretty basic, but these thoughts along with giving our customers easy to install products that work very well at fair prices have helped get Hogtunes where we are today.
